2009 Chevrolet Traverse
The new 2009 Chevrolet Traverse has now been unveiled, the fourth evolution of the Chevrolet’s Lambda platform crossover designs. The 2009 Traverse is a full-size vehicle, with seating for seven or eight-passenger (depending on model).
The exterior design of the new Traverse is a little more aggressive than previous models, with the big twin-port grill and jewel-head lamps providing a smooth and edgy frontage. The LTZ model has 20-inch wheels as standard providing a grounded and solid look. All the models are also available with sunroofs.
The interior of the Traverse is of a premium quality, with smart heated and cooled bucket seats standard in the LTZ model. The dashboard continues the edgy look with a sweeping cock pit design, and although the quality of the plastics is not quite high spec, the Traverse is spacious and functional.
Safety features for the 2009 model include six air bags with rollover sensor, electronic stability control system and enhanced visibility side view mirrors on 1LT, 2LT and LTZ models. Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist is also standard on these models, and a power-remote lift gate on the LTZ only.

Driving the new 2009 Traverse reveals a dynamic and responsive ride. The new 3.6L VVT V6 engine provides more mid-range torque without compromising fuel consumption, and the suspension has been re-tuned and feels lighter and more stable through the corners with minimal body roll. Steering is reasonably responsive for such a big vehicle, and the low speed maneuverability is comparably good amongst its competitors.
Overall the enhanced engine and suspension of the 2009 Traverse is a marked improvement on previous models, providing a superior driving experience to most of the alternatives currently on the market. For such a large and heavy vehicle the Traverse is a surprisingly dynamic drive, providing responsive and stable handling, and good mid range torque, which will provide continuous power, even whilst towing. The styling is nothing radical, but is solid and sturdy and the interior provides a good sense of space. ![]()
